How To Make Wine – An Easy Approach

Thursday, January 28th, 2010

Hey everyone, Jeff here…

I thought I’d write another post with some tips on how to make wine.  I just finished making an awesome batch of some fruit wine that turned out to be a big hit at my house this past week.

I’ve been wanting to touch on the topic of how I got started in the homemade wine hobby because a lot of people have been emailing me with this question…

Well, I want to tell you that it didn’t come easy and I didn’t just jump into it.  I had a lot of help from my brother that had been making homemade mead for some time.  I read a lot of information and paid for a lot of books.  But as you know, reading won’t get you anywhere unless you take action…

There is a lot of information on the internet about how to make wine, but I honestly think the best thing you can do is to just get out there and do it.  By taking action and getting a wine making kit, you will be much farther ahead than you were the day before.

Now, I Am Finally Making Wine Faster Than Ever Before!

Like I said earlier, I have been pretty lucky to have the support system that I had for my homemade wine interest.  It is only now that I am beginning to become very interested in growing my own grapes and possibly starting my own wine making business.

I plan on continuing to make win for myself, but to also make wine and sell it locally in the stores.  It’s a big goal, but I believe that I will be able to do it by this time next year.

As stated above, I just recently became interested in growing grapes to make red wine.  I don’t have a lot of property yes so I am just experimenting with a few grape trees in my backyard for now.

I will just order some additional grapes if needed in order to have a large enough batch.  But growing grapes for wine is a very new process that really excites me!

So if you’re looking for some information on making wine at home and possibly growing grapes, then I recommend that you check out the Ultimate Winemaker’s Guide.  It worked wonders for me.

Alright, so that’s an update on my life here.  If you guys have any questions about growing grapes or making wine or wine kits or anything, don’t hesitate to drop me an e-mail and I will get back to you.

Thanks for stopping by,

Jeff

How To Make Wine – My Story

People often ask me how to make wine and how I got started.  I remember a couple of years ago when my me and my older brother were going to the same college, he made his own Mead in his basement.  Mead is an alcoholic drink made from honey and water, and my brother’s tasted sooooo good.  This was one of my first introductions to making wine in your own home.

Unfortunately, my brother is now at Western Michigan getting his PHD, so I no longer have access to his mead making skills.

I decided for myself that I would focus on making red wine instead of mead.  I thought it would require a lot more work, but it really doesn’t if you know what you are doing.

The first thing I do before starting a new hobby or project is research.  I hit the web and try to learn as much as I can while taking notes.  During my research, I had lots of help from my brother and bought multiple products.  There were some products that were great and others that weren’t.

The product isn’t as important as you getting up and taking action to make your own wine.  I believe that people are spending way too much time reading when they should be starting their homemade wine journey.  This will motivate you to building up your red wine making business. how_to_make_wine_2

My personal favorite of having my own winery in my home is the fact that you can give your homemade wine away as gifts!  Wine is always a great gift and my friends and family are always very thankful when they receive my gift.  Plus, it serves as a great addition to parties.  Just bring over a few bottles and people will be complimenting your homemade wine all night!

I want you to stop asking how to make wine at home.  Just start doing it and you will have more wine than you know what to do with.  Sure, the first batch takes some time, but before you know it, you’ll be well on your way to your second batch and then third and fourth and so on.  That is what happened to me and look at me now :)

Cheers and happy wine making!

-Jeff
