Make Wine In Your Own Home

I love teaching people how to make wine, and I have always loved the idea of making my own homemade wine. I remember a couple of years ago when my me and my older brother were going to the same college, he made his own Mead in his basement. Mead is an alcoholic drink made from honey and water, and my brother’s tasted sooooo good. This was one of my first introductions to making wine in your own home.

Unfortunately, my brother is now at Western Michigan getting his PHD, so I no longer have access to his mead making skills.

I decided for myself that I would focus on making red wine instead of mead. I thought it would require a lot more work, but it really doesn’t if you know what you are doing.

The first thing I do before starting a new hobby or project is proper research.  So, I hit the web and did as much research as I could about how to make wine at home.  During my research, I found a lot of resources on the internet that were free and some that were not.  So, I believe that I am now pretty knowledgeable in the home wine making field due to my experience.

One of the hardest parts of making your own wine is knowing how and where to get the proper equipment in order to do so. There are plenty of stores that carry certain items you’ll need, but putting it all together is an entirely different story. I ended up buying a wine making kit from a local store that worked out fine for my first adventures in wine making.how_to_make_wine_2

I definitely recommend that you start out by buying a wine kit because it will make your life a lot easier. I think I paid around $50 to have my first complete kit where I would make wine for the first time! I started out with a 5 gallon tank instead of a 1 gallon. I think it’s best to go big since you never know how much you’ll be making in the future. But you can start off small if you wish.

I then picked up plenty of books on how to make wine that were designed to teach me the proper fruits and other recipes that I could possibly make. I ended up making various batches such as mead and cider in the beginning, instead of wine. One of my books has over 100 possible recipes that you can make with just fruits and other ingredients.

My personal favorite of having my own winery in my home is the fact that you can give your homemade wine away as gifts. Wine is always a great gift and my friends and family are always very thankful when they receive my gift. Plus, it serves as a great addition to parties. Just bring over a few bottles and people will be complimenting your homemade wine all night!

There is a specific product that I just recently bought called Grape Growing and Wine Making Tips.  It’s the first product that I’ve bought that includes information on grape growing, something that I have never done but have been interested in trying.

I am making my own wine, so why not start making my own grapes :)

Anyways, I do enjoy the wine making sections as well, specifically the red wine chapter.  He definitely gives some good information about wine making.  If this product sounds interesting to you, Click Here to check it out.
